Introduction
Under the Employment Act, an employee must not work more than 44 hours per week or 12 hours a day. Therefore, an employee shall not work more than 176 hours per month. Should there be requirements to work more than 176 hours of normal work, an allowance of 72 hours of overtime work can be given per month. However, when overtime work exceeds 72 hours per month, a company should seek OT exemption approval.
A company shall engage an Approved WSH Auditing Organization (also known as Approved Risk Consultant) to endorse a Risk Assessment that is conducted on the work activities to be undertaken during the overtime exemption period.
